What’s your Leadership Philosophy? I found it useful to type mine out.
As I found myself beginning to lead ever-changing initiatives I also found myself continuously advocating for certain philosophies. With each new team member or leader, it is a new attempt to align on expectations and a meeting of minds.
It’s difficult to articulate your viewpoints when you are in the trenches of your workday or project, especially, in those moments when someone strongly opposes you. In the heat of the moment, the stressors make it almost impossible to articulate what you think.
Even if there is alignment, you usually don’t find this out until there’s an intimate moment over drinks or caffeine.
So, instead of waiting for those moments, why not lay it all out there right out of the gate?
That’s what I did here in a Google Doc and this version is the result of many iterations.
The most difficult part was writing it down in the first place. It was also the most helpful part. Because, how did I expect to communicate what I believe, and begin to evolve those beliefs, if I didn’t have anything to point to?
As James Clear says in Atomic Habits,
“You have to standardize before you can optimize. You can’t improve what doesn’t exist.”
